still a virgin at 31 and ready to lose it

So, I just celebrated my 31st birthday last month. I'm still a virgin (vaginal insertion) and I've decided that 2008 will be my year.

I've been living with my boyfriend for 3 years (our aniversary was last month) and he's been very patient with me, however I know that cant last forever.

In the past, I have had serious fears and flashbacks when I tried to have sex. When I was 15, I got sick and was diagnosed with uterine fibroids. The testing was very traumatic for me, as I was held down on an exam room gurney and a hospital OB/GYN forced a GYN exam on me. Several nurses held me down and my mother watched as it all happened. I screamed and cried, but she didnt help me. It was very painful (as at that point, my vagina was never opened, not even with a tampon). Since that day, I never attempted to have sexual intercourse with anyone.

In all respects, I am a normal 31 year old woman with sexual urges, however, I just cant get passed the issue of pain during intercourse (I havent even had a GYN exam since my last surgery 3 years ago).

Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks!

Hi, since you asked for advice I think you should see a sex therapist with your boyfriend. You will have to work through your traumatic experience. He sounds like a good guy if he has been waiting around for 3 years.
